who makes up traditions??

on our first anniversary my mom called me to ask me what i wanted her to do with our wedding cake sitting in her freezer...if we wanted them to eat it, if we wanted to eat it when we came to visit in a month, etc. well, first of all i didn't even know she had the cake to begin with! and second of all, it just sounds like a funky tradition to me! i mean, seriously, this tradition has been around for a while now, before such things as ziplock baggies and vacuum sealing and really good freezers, who came up with this? who said one day they wanted to keep the top layer of their wedding cake for a whole year and then eat it?! and then how did that spread across the entire country? it just baffles me because i always thought it was a crazy idea. but i do have to admit, in the age of ziplock baggies and really good freezers, it was pretty fun to try our wedding cake especially since neither one of us remembered anything about it! the cake didn't look too pretty a year later but it still tasted really good! even my dad was pleasantly surprised because both he and my mom remembered their cake 25 years ago tasting disgusting after a year! haha! here are just a few pictures of our evening of following wedding traditions...

Our little cake going through defrostafter a year of freezer life...not lookin too goodNick thought this was kind of a gross ideaBut hey...mom liked it!
